Learn which colored gemstones will compliment the purple and blue colored garments being shown on the runways for Fall and Winter 2007.

There are lovely colored garments coming down the runways for Fall and Winter 2007. This article will concentrate on blue and purple and how to coordinate colored gemstones with these hues. A subsequent article will discuss the warmer colors being shown – yellow and red.

In order to get a fair representation of the colors being shown, a box of 64 Crayola Crayons has been used to select two crayons that are representative of what will be popular blue and purple colors for the upcoming season's garments.

Cornflower - a clear, true medium blue. Referencing the color wheel, the complimentary color for cornflower is a brownish/orange shade. Possible complimentary gemstones include carnelian, golden topaz, picasso marble and tiger's eye.

Picasso Marble is mined in the state of Utah in the USA and is a very soft gemstone. Therefore, the best choice of wear for picasso marble would be a pendant or a pair of earrings.

Amber and certain peachy shades of Coral, while not gemstones, would also create a fantastic complimentary look. Both amber and coral are organic. Amber is a fossilized resin of certain pine trees and can contain the ancient remains of insects and plants encased in the resin.

Coral was at one time a living organism in the ocean. If you are uncomfortable with the harvesting of live coral there are many pieces of faux coral available that look quite similar to the real thing.

To create a monochromatic look wear cornflower or any blue hue with aquamarine, turquoise or apatite.

Purple Mountains' Majesty - Purple is a secondary color that is made from the combination of red and blue. Purple Mountains' Majesty is a very neutral hue of purple that is a deep lilac/grey in color.

The complimentary color for purple mountains' majesty is in the yellow/orange family of colors. Possible complimentary gemstones include yellow citrine, yellow jade and rutilated quartz.

To create a monochromatic look wear this hue with amethyst, deep purple hued garnet or purple fluorite.

Another cool color being shown is Sea Green. Sea Green is is a yellow/green hue that is a bright tone. Complimentary gemstones would be those that are red/violet such as amethyst, garnet, purple shades of fluorite and iolite.

Green jade, chrysophase, peridot and green tones of fluorite would create a stunning monochromatic look with any yellow/green hue.

The primary image shown on this page is a sky blue turquoise crystal showing some black matrix. There are two examples of apatite shown. One image is beautiful faceted, varigated apatite ranging from blue to green. The other example of apatite is cubed, non-facted light green.

The remaining image shows an oval, facted iolite bead on the top with a oval chrysophase chunk crystal on the bottom.

And finally, a word about neutral colors:

Obviously, neutral colors such as white and black are fashion constants. As they are neutral colors just about any colored gemstone will look great worn with these colors. Pearls also look fantastic with black and white.

The next article will discuss colored gemstone selections for the warm colors of Fall and Winter 2007.
