Diamond wedding jewelry worn by the bride remains elegant and appropriate. Due to the extravagant nature of diamonds the jewelry worn should be quite simple.

It is just the nature of the event that the bride will most likely already be wearing diamonds to her wedding in her engagement ring. But what about the use of diamonds in other wedding jewelry such as earrings, necklace and bracelet?

Diamonds are a luxurious choice for wedding jewelry. Obviously due to the extravagant nature of diamonds elaborate diamond jewelry should not be worn, as it will compete with the wedding dress and the bride. The bride should always be the focal point of any wedding.

Diamond tennis necklaces - Just about any neckline will support a simple diamond tennis necklace. To make the necklace special chose one with slightly graduated in size diamond gemstones. For example, have a 6mm gemstone as the center focal gemstone with the diameter of the diamonds gradually getting smaller around to the back of the necklace.

Another elegant necklace idea would be a simple cable style karated gold chain with one diamond suspended from it (cut your cost by using a gold filled chain). Depending on the profile of your neckline the chain could vary from 16 inches in length to 20 inches. Choose a thin cable chain and it will appear that the diamond is suspended in mid air – a very modern look – yet pure glamour. A simple diamond tennis bracelet would compliment both choices.

There are many variations on the tennis necklace theme using diamond gemstones cut in shapes other than round, alternating shaped gemstones or having a simple diamond set tassel as the focal point of the necklace.

Cut costs with cubic zirconia - An excellent cost cutting alternative to diamonds is to use white topaz, white sapphire or cubic zirconia. Gasp at the thought of wearing CZs on your wedding day – don’t. Many of the elite have ‘paste’ replicas made of their priceless jewelry that they wear while the real item is locked up in a safe.

Additionally, good CZs set in karated gold look like the real thing unless closely examined by a gemologist. Alternatively, rent your wedding jewelry at a source such as Bag, Borrow or Steal.

Diamond stud earrings - A bride can never go wrong with a simple pair of diamond stud earrings. No matter what the profile of the wedding gown or whether or not a veil will be worn diamonds studs will always look appropriate and have the advantage that they should not get entangled with the veil.

If the bride is not wearing a veil and is not wearing a necklace diamond chandelier earrings will be a perfect compliment. Just be sure that the size and shape of the chandelier earrings compliments the shape of the bride’s face. Additionally, the last thing a bride needs on her wedding day is to have a headache from earrings that are too heavy. Prior to settling on a pair of earrings give them a test drive to make sure they are and will remain comfortable for extended wear.

The next article in this series on wedding jewelry will discuss pearls; the next after that - blue gemstones.
