The first article in this two part series discussed the warm spring colors such as red and yellow. This article will concentrate on the blue and green hues being shown on the runways for Spring 2007 and how to coordinate colored gemstones with these hues.
Once again the box of 64 Crayola Crayons has been used to select two crayons that are representative of what will be popular blue and green colors for Spring garments.
Cadet Blue - a blue/green hue that is rather dark. Referencing the color wheel the complimentary color for blue/green is red/orange. Possible complimentary gemstones include carnelian, golden topaz , tiger's eye and smoky quartz.
To create a monochromatic look wear cadet blue or any blue/green hue with aquamarine, blue topaz or apatite.
Sea Green - this is a yellow/green hue that is bright. Complimentary gemstones would be those that are red/violet such as amethyst, garnet, purple shades of fluorite and iolite.
Jade, peridot and green tones of fluorite would create a stunning monochromatic look with any yellow/green hue.
All of the gemstones mentioned in this article are semi-precious gemstones as opposed to precious gemstones. There are only three colored precious gemstones: ruby, sapphire and emerald. As a very general rule, of the semi-precious colored gemstones listed in this article, you should expect to pay more for jewelry containing the semi-precious gemstones aquamarine and blue topaz
And finally, a word about neutral colors:
Many women wear quite a bit of black. Black looks good and is appropriate for just about any occasion. A well made black crewneck top, unfaded jeans and diamond stud earrings will get you through 75% of all occasions.
Obviously, neutral colors such as white and black are fashion constants. As they are neutral colors just about any colored gemstone will look great worn with these colors.
Black dresses quite often are worn with pearls or diamonds. However, recently a fashion magazine published a picture of Courtney Love wearing a black scoop neck dress with a black onyx necklace - an unusual combination - on Love it looked fantastic. So this is also a combination to consider for the neutral color black.
