Montgomery Harris is the owner and lead designer for Montgomery Boutique, a fabulous shop located in the trendy North Manhattan area of Harlem at 2312 7th Ave.
In the design business for many years, Montgomery Harris has her thumb on the pulse of current fashion trends. She creates beautiful one-of-a-kind outfits, using only prints. She specializes in constructing garments made from hard-to-come-by prints that are often 50 to 100 years old.
Harris’s design line is fabricated in many different types of fabric such as wool, cashmere, leather, feathers and exotic skins. She also embellishes the surface of her garments with appliqués of her trademark, the iconic Jolinda.
When Harris is in the designing mode, her inspiration is the modern woman on the go – honing in on that woman’s daily need to look fantastic each and every time she leaves the house. Harris regards her designs as basic, utilitarian items that can be worn as everyday favorites. Her goal is to have the majority of these designs work from day to evening – perhaps changing face with the addition of a jewelry accessory or a change of shoe.

Now, what types of accessories does Montgomery recommend for and is showing with her Spring/Summer 2008 collection?
Hoop earrings continue to be very trendy for spring summer 2008. Depending on the richness of the garment, the occasion, and whether or not it is being worn for day or evening, choose hoops that are medium to large size – in the shoulder-duster mode.
Harris also recommends earrings that have a hoop within a hoop – or a hoop with some sort of talisman or charm hanging within the hoop, such as heart, cross or star. Also hot this season – enameled hoop earrings or the hoop earrings that appears to be made from bamboo.
- Oversized women’s watches are all the rage this season. Choose an oversized watch with a leather strap for day wear. This look goes with any day garment from business suits to jeans.
- For special day events and evening wear, Harris likes to combine a rich feature with the utilitarian. For example, choosing watches with cases encrusted with Swarovski crystals or mother-of pearl faces, combining this luxe touch with wristbands of clear Lucite or black rubber. This juxtapositioning of elegance with materials that are not commonly used in traditional jewelry construction makes for a very compelling wrist profile.
