There’s a lot of talk about the 100 Thing Challenge - simplifying life by whittling down possessions to 100 items. Homes in the USA have progressively gotten larger and larger since the 1950s. Possessions to fill the houses have increased as well. More rooms and closets,more furniture, clothing and jewelry follow as the space to fill expands.
"It's a very emotional process," says professional organizer Julie Morgenstern in her new book, When Organizing Isn't Enough: SHED Your Stuff, Change Your Life. "Often these are things that represent who you once were," she says. "But once their purpose is over, they just keep you stagnant.
Actor Jamie Lee Curtis states in a recent AARP magazine article that as she approached 50 she started simplifying her life – one step was to give away to friends or donate most of her jewelry.

Hoop Earrings
14K or sterling silver hoop earrings (depending on the color of the garment) are appropriate for all occasions from casual to formal.
Diamond Stud Earrings
The same is true for diamond stud earrings. They look great with jeans and with formal wear. The bigger the better. Don't have a pair? Buy good CZs instead of the real thing. Worn in a pair of earrings it's impossible for all but a gemologist to tell the difference.
Length of hair and lifestyle are considerations when deciding between studs or the size of hoops. Those with young children with curious fingers might find hoops an issue for everyday wear. Save them for events without the kids.
Pearls

Just about everyone has a signature piece of jewelry that is worn frequently. Maybe it's a diamond engagement and wedding ring. Perhaps it's a charm bracelet passed down from mother to daughter. Or a nice Rolex watch given as a graduation present.
Use caution when disposing of signature or sentimental jewelry. A good rule of thumb is that if it's been handed down from a relative, especially one who is dead, it's best to keep it for the next generation.
