Warm and muted bright colors are popular garment colors for Fall 2008. Find out what jewelry looks will coordinate.

Runway shows and fashion magazines are showing three warm yellow and green colors for Fall 2008. Suggestions are given in this article for both monochromatic and complementary color combining. Not sure what terms terms mean? They come from the ordering on a color wheel. Here's a thumbnail sketch:

  • Monochromatic – the use of any variation of the same color; for example, periwinkle and navy.
  • Complementary – the use of a color with the color that is shown exactly opposite to it on the color wheel; for example, blue and orange.

Yellow Hued Colors for Fall 2008

  • Deep Maize

To create a complementary look, wear this hue of maize with blue turquoise, blue agate, sky blue aquamarine and blue topaz. An example of color combining with this hue is shown in the image on this page. A necklace of red coral with a turquoise and blue topaz pendant is shown against a deep maize garment.

The blue gemstones really pop against the maize, making this necklace the focal point of the outfit. Obviously, this look would not be as effective or attractive if the garment has any type of pattern or surface design.

The coral necklace is red-orange making it a split complementary color for maize. This means that red /orange and yellow/orange are next to each other on the color wheel. Overall, the combination is attractive and appealing to the eye.

  • Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a perennial fall color favorite. It's a deeper yellow than maize with more orange and some brown thrown in - a by-product of the primary color red. Blue/green gemstones such as apatite, greenish aquamarine and turquoise and amazonite create a stunning monochromatic look with this hue.

Complementary gemstones include carnelian, tiger's eye, amber and pink tourmaline. Wondering why pink tourmaline is thrown into the mix? Well, pink is an example of a tint, which is a color plus white. In this instance red + white = pink.

The best metals to wear with these two colors are yellow rather than silver such as karated gold, gold filled or plate and brass.

  • Warm Olive Green

This is a deep but warm hue. It's a combination of the primary color yellow mixed with some black. Gemstones such as green jade, bright green peridot and common green opal are the monochromatic gemstones. Cat's Eye can also be a good choice - depending on it's color.

Complementary gemstones are lavender. A very good choice is amethyst.. Some shades of garnet will look good as well.

Metals for this color can be a toss up. Sterling silver can look very nice against olive green. Hold silver and gold up against the garment and see which looks best. This color can also look very nice with rose gold.
