Find out how to use a Scrimp or crimp bead to finish a necklace made with beading wire.

My latest article gave the directions on how to make a glass pearl and crystal rondelle necklace for your Mother as a Mother's Day present.

My instructions in that article gave a very simple closure system of tying the necklace loosely around the neck using satin or lace ribbon - this looks very pretty and is very easy to do.

But, if you would like to have a more professional finish to your necklace try using a Scrimp or crimp bead. I've used both and like either method. I think for a beginner the Scrimp bead is easier to use. However, using the screw driver to tighten the screw is an acquired skill. It was not pretty in my workshop the first few times I tried to use the Scrimp beads. Once you get the hang of it, Scrimp is a fantastic system.

Fire Mountain Gems has a very detailed instruction page on how to use a scrimp bead. They also sell Scrimp beads. If you use this method you will also need to purchase a clasp and beading wire - all are available online at Fire Mountain Gems.
