Naomi Watts wore a stunning pair of drop earrings to the recent Golden Globe awards. I never could get a definitive answer as to the identity of the single large teardrop shaped gemstone hung on the earrings. The base of the earring appeared to be a white faceted gemstone such as a diamond and the drop gemstone was opaque - and looked like either rose quartz or organic pink coral.
Depending how rose quartz is cut it can look transculent or opaque - that is the gemstone has more of a flat shiny surface that you can not see through. Coral, as it was originally a living creature, is not a gemstone rather it is organic - the same as pearls, amber and jet.
Well, fast forward to this year's Oscars. Ms Watts had on what appeared to be the same pair of drop earrings. They were translucent rose quartz drops. The post of the earring was a large square cut diamond - the designer - David Yurman.
There is a beautiful close up picture of these earrings on page 415 of March 2007 In Style magazine and a picture of Ms. Watts wearing them. The shape, size and color of these earrings perfectly compliment her features and makeup shades. This is a perfect example of choosing jewelry that fits not only the occasion but is carefully chosen to flatter.
Ms. Watts has very delicate features and is fair skinned. The simplicity of the drop earrings did not compete with her facial features. The pinkish hue of the rose quartz coordinated quite nicely with the blush and lip shades she wore.
