I flip through at least a hundred magazines each month doing research. Some I have subscriptions to, others are chance encounters at doctor's offices, friend's homes and other venues. All my subscriptions are recycled back into the public by dropping off at doctor's offices etc.
Hands down the best magazine for women as to current USA jewelry trends is Style. The magazine offers that nifty three part section each month with expensive, mid range and cheap jewelry. Most months are very similar but taking a year in total you can really see emerging trends.
November 2007's issue of W magazine (pic of Nicole Kidman by Richard Prince on the cover) has two fantastic articles on diamonds.
Neo Geo has 9 full pages of images of colored and raw diamonds by designers such as Chanel and Chopard. The photography is quite stunning. Page 152 showed a truly unique ring fashioned from black diamonds and a polished green diamond bead. I've never seen anything like this before.
And then on page 160 - yikes - a truly fantastic titanium and diamond bangle by Francis Mertens. I have plans to make a version of this on the cheap. I'm in the process of ordering the supplies now and if feasible I will post the instructions as an article. First, though I have to get the instructions up for the 2007 Holiday Pendant Necklace.
The second article, Color Wheel, gave the Clift Notes version of how to buy a colored diamond. The article is so concise yet action packed, I ripped it out of the magazine to keep.
As a bonus, this issue has 9 full pages of celebrity headshots by Richard Prince. If you do not have a subscription it is well worth shelling out the per issue price this month.
