I was scanning a recent issue of Vanity Fair lately looking for jewelry ads or pictures of celebrities wearing signature pieces of jewelry. That is one of my favorite jewelry related hobbies. A signature style can either be a type of jewelry such as earrings or an actual piece of jewelry.
For example, I ordered 21 Grams from Netflix last week so I could at last completely check out the necklace that the Christina Peck character (Naomi Watts) wore throughout most of the movie. After replaying certain scenes a few times I was finally able to see that it was a small round charm with a Peace symbol etched on it.
Now the hunt is on to see if this is a piece of jewelry personally owned by Ms. Watts or just chosen by the wardrobe department for the movie. That is always of great interest to me - whether or not jewelry that is worn throughout a movie is done so for a specific story line related purpose.
Another good example would be the Elaine character (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) in the television show Seinfeld. This character wore a lot of jacket/ skirt combos and 9 times out of 10 the jackets were accessorized by a pin. I've seen quite a few interviews with Louis-Dreyfus and based upon the style of clothing worn in the interviews I imagine Elaine's garb and jewelry in the television show had less to do with Louis-Dreyfus and more to do with the inspirations for the character - Carol Leifer and Monica Yates.
