The Wire Jewelry Fest is going to be held on July 20th, 21st and 22nd at the Chase Center on the RIverfront in Wilmington, DE. The Chase Center is located off 1-95 about 30 minutes away from Philadelphia.
Many jewelry artists get their start by wire wrapping or beading. Wire wrapping allows you to create designs that are as varied and sturdy as soldered metal designs without the stress of using a torch.
If you live in the Pennsylvania or Delaware area this is a fantastic chance to learn about the art of wire wrapping, enroll in classes and buy supplies.
Associated with the typical wire wrapping techniques there will also be classes in chain maille (basically connecting jump rings) and wire crochet - that's right - depending on the gauge of the wire you can actually crochet wire using a special tool and fabricate the crocheted product into bracelets and necklaces.
For more info, to find out which jewelry artists and vendors will be in attendance and to sign up for classes check out the festival website.
Interested in beading? Here is info for the beadfest Philadelphia 2007 which is being held August 24st, 25th and 26th. Classes start on August 23rd.
It's been a long time since I've been to Philly. Apparently parking is an issue because both the beadfestand the Wire Jewelry Fest are advertising 'Free Parking!'
